| Ok, so....I've had many people ask me if I had any clue what this certain episode of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics was called. Everyone mentioned that it was about this girl that carried a bag of three dresses and used them to attend a ball, but for the life of me, I just couldn't remember what it was called. But....I now have the answer. "The Coat of Many Colours." Yay!!! To make sure it's right, here's a synopsis....
Basically, princess Alaya (the cartoon pronounces it both uh-lay-uh and uh-lee-uh.....don't know if that how you spell her name) runs away from her father because he goes insane and tries to marry her. The king made a promise to his dying wife that he would only marry someone as beautiful as she was and with hair as golden as she had. But after several years, the king couldn't find anyone that matched this description......except the princess. By this time, he's gone a little crazy and convinces himself that he must marry his daughter in order to fulfill his promise to his wife. (You won't catch this in a Disney movie.... )
So the cartoon opens up with the princess running away from her father. She's carrying a sack as the king chases her into the dining hall. The princess knocks the king over and makes him drop a torch, setting the castle on fire. Alaya runs into the woods carrying the sack, when she eventually stops and puts on a coat made out of a bunch of different animal skins, and the hood is made from the head of a fox or something. The next morning, a prince finds her hiding in the trunk of a tree, and feeling sorry for her, tells his servant to bring her to the castle where she gets a job as a maid-like person. The entire time she is at the castle, she wears the coat.
One day, the prince decides to throw a ball. Alaya spends a lot of her time mopping floors, but when the servants get a break, she goes into her room and changes into one of the dresses in her sack. **Alaya told her father she would marry him if he completed an impossible task, which was to get her a dress spun from gold, one of silver moonbeams, one of stardust, and the cloak of a thousand furs** Alaya enters the ballroom and is literally glowing. But as she starts to dance with the prince, she has flashbacks about her father and runs from the room. The prince chases after her, but she changes back into her coat and nobody recognizes her. (This pretty much repeats itself with the next dress of moonbeams.
As she's about to enter the ballroom with the dress of stardust, she peeks in and sees the prince dancing with another princess. Alaya runs away without entering the ballroom, and changes back into the coat. One of the main servants orders her to prepare the soup that is to be served to the prince. Alaya removes the ring that is on her finger (which the prince notices earlier in the cartoon) and places it into the bowl that the prince will eat from. He summons her later and everyone discovers that she is the princess from the previous balls. They get married and live happily ever after. The End.
Does anyone recognize the cartoon? A lot of people were asking about this one, and another called "The Worn-out Dancing Shoes," where a soldier is hired by the king to find out why his daughter's dancing shoes are alwasys worn out by the next day. The soldier follows the princesses into an underground tunnel through a forest of gold, silver, and diamonds...... Ah, the memories.
Here's the link to the Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics page, because when you look for it from the main ioffer.com page, you can't find it. (I don't know if the seller isn't selling it anymore or what, but the links at the bottom of the page still work. Last week, I could find it from the main page and I ordered my copy, and got it yesterday.) Hopefully it still works.
But besides that, ioffer.com is the best place to find old cartoons. People are selling DuckTales, Freakazoid, Animaniacs, Tale Spin, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Snorks, and Pirates of Dark Water. The only thing I haven't been able to find so far is David the Gnome and Beetle Juice. Just realize that, yes, they are burned copies, so the quality of some of them are kinda rough. But it's better than waiting for the sets to come out....and cheaper. So Enjoy!
| That's pretty much my mood right now. I've been spending the last couple days noticing that the majority of my videos that I linked from youtube, no longer work. The only ones that still work are Duck Tales, Ren and Stimpy, Animaniacs, Reboot, Adventures of Pete and Pete, BeetleJuice, one Gummi Bear episode (A Gummi in a Gilded Cage), Hey Dude, and one Strawberry Shortcake episode (In Big Apple City). All the rest don't work anymore. No David the Gnome. No Inspector Gadget. No Rainbow Brite. So I went through and saved the rest that were still up, just in case those disappeared too. That way I can put them back up if needed. Did anyone happen to save any episodes?
I've found another website where someone is selling Grimm's Fairy Tales, Animaniacs, Doug, Are You Afraid of the Dark, David the Gnome and some other shows. I just bought the Grimm's set, so if I don't get ripped off, I'll tell you where it is.
Btw,
Animaniacs: Vol. 1 is coming out on dvd 7/25/06, but the retail is supposed to be $44.95 for only 25 episodes.
Darkwing Duck: Vol. 1 comes out 8/29/06, 27 eps for $34.99
Pinky and the Brain: Vol. 1 comes out 7/25/06, 22 eps for 44.95
Tale Spin: Vol. 1 comes out 8/29/06, 27 eps for 34.99
Voltron-Defenders of the Universe: Set 1 comes out 9/26/06, 15 eps for 39.95
Hold off on the Animaniacs, if all you want is a copy of the episodes. The website I'm looking at has the episodes on 11 dvd's for half the price.
| I'm not exactly sure what's going on with the toonsource site, but that is the correct link. I'm hoping the site is just undergoing some construction or something, but who knows. So, if you really need your Grimm's Fairy Tales fix, www.secretsofgrayskull also sells episodes, but they're on video. I think they also have Bella and Sebastian. Also, you can buy the official release of GFT on www.amazon.co.uk, but the dvd only has 5 episodes. I'll try looking for more sites, but cross your fingers and hope toonsource comes back soon...... | | |
| Warning: this may be a little long and drawn out. But I haven't found anyone else online that explains this.
Okay, this is for those that want to be able to save episodes of the shows they find on youtube. I figured this out after I bought a PSP, but you don't need to have a PSP to make this work. The only thing you'll need to get is the "PSP Video 9" software that converts flv files to mp4 files. I found it on the web for free. Anyway, to save a youtube video to your computer, you'll have to copy the URL and paste it at a website that will let you download the file to your computer. Try www.keepvid.com. Keepvid will only let you download the flv file to your computer, but unless you have a program that will let you watch flv videos, when you click on it, it won't play. **Make sure you read the directions on keepvid...they're pretty self-explanatory. The important thing is to rename the file with and ".flv" at the end.** So.....if you have the PSP Video 9 on your computer, all you have to do is open it up and convert the flv file you saved. Just click on "convert" and then "one-click transcode." Click on the flv file you want to convert, and it will change it to an mp4 file, which you can watch on Windows Media Player. I burn mine on to cd's so I can save them. The only draw back is that it takes a LONG time and takes up a lot of space. Converting the files from flv to mp4 is usually an all night thing, and I just let the computer run til it's finished. There's an option where the computer will shut down after it has finished converting. So there's that, for anyone who wants to save any Freakazoid or David the Gnome episodes.
Now, if anyone could help me out.....I have episodes of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics that I was thinking about putting on youtube. But I don't know how to save it to the computer. Do I just put it in the dvd drive, and is there an option that comes up or something? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.
